Blue skies and picture perfect scenery was the ideal backdrop for an Opening Weekend like no other. Smiling faces, celebrations and history-making conditions were all on show as we skied and snowboarded our way into the 2017 winter season.
The combination of natural and mountain-made snow saw Hotham see its best season opening since 2012. Moreover, this is the first time in Hotham history where we have had a terrain park for Opening Day! These amazing feats were facilitated by early season snowfall and cold conditions which allowed Mount Hotham’s $4.4 million expansion of snowmaking to work its magic. The increased capacity for mountain-made snow has contributed to the most Opening Weekend terrain available in 5 years.
This weekend we learnt that Hotham knows how to throw a party. The weekend festivities kicked off with One Tree Sports champagne retail therapy, now a staple tradition. General Manager Belinda Trembath drew the major prize raffle winner Caroline Rossetti -congratulations Caroline!
Saturday night was greeted with a spectacular show of dazzling lights. The fireworks extravaganza had the crowd cheering as the sky was filled with a mixture of whirls, explosions and iridescent waterfalls of colour.
Hotham guests were also treated to a weekend long dance party. The Hand Me Downs kicked off the music line up at Swindlers on Saturday night, and oh what a party it was! Sunday night saw DJ Eddy on show who continues to be a crowd favourite.
